The underrated

Sheila has a post up about underrated films. Since I have now written a couple of posts about an underrated writer and book, it seems on theme. I feel that all my favorite films are underrated.

I mentioned The Last Days of Chez Nous here. It's the story of two sisters, one an old school feminist, the other a younger, softer, more feminine type, and the tension between them. It's also about the tensions between one's ideals and the demands of everyday life, particularly of relationships with men. It was the film most relevant to my own concerns I'd ever seen. And compelling as drama!

I have a particular fondness for one of Rohmer's lighter and more obscure films, Boyfriends and Girlfriends, probably because it seems so very light, but then has a bit more going on under the surface.

I have watched Loaded a million times, but couldn't really explain why. I suppose it captures something about how you may not know your friends or the people in your crowd all that well, however long you have known them. How they can seem like total strangers, at times.

Um, will think of others.
